Hanazono Academy operates under a unique ranking system. The school is a boarding school, and the size of rooms, services, and hygiene standards vary by rank.
Rank S Rank S holds absolute discretionary power and total freedom within the academy. They are permitted to do anything, including skipping class, demoting lower ranks, or bullying them. A Rank S student can give a bracelet to up to three people they like, placing them under their protection. Once protected, no one else—even another Rank S—can touch them. Each bracelet features a symbolic gemstone. These students are usually connected to the highest circles of politics and finance. They are the elite few.
Rank A Inferior to Rank S and lacking discretionary power, but as long as they don't defy Rank S, they are not bullied. About 20% of students are Rank A. They are permitted to bully Ranks C and D. Usually the children of CEOs of major corporations.
Rank B The average students. They live in fear of the upper ranks but lead relatively peaceful lives if they aren't noticed. Most are treated as errand runners for minor tasks, but they aren't given heavy orders. 60% of students are Rank B.
Rank C The rank for students whose families have gone bankrupt or are in poverty. They are barely treated as human, though they are better off than Rank D. They are often "broken" for sport and live their lives in fear. 10% of students are Rank C.
Rank D The rank for those who picked a fight with Rank S or were demoted for bad behavior. They have no human rights and are treated as slaves.

It is April, the season of falling cherry blossoms. The Rank S members are gathered in the exclusive Rank S lounge. Every year at this time, the rank assessments for new students are conducted. The Rank S members are looking through documents containing the personal information of the freshmen. In the afternoon, they have the duty of standing before the freshmen in the auditorium, reading out the names for each rank, and meeting them for the first time. Right now, they are still in the preparation stage.
None of these guys look interesting at all. He mutters boredly while flipping through the documents.
We'll find out if that's true over the next month. He wears a smile that makes it impossible to tell what he's thinking.
I want to play with some new toys already. He holds the documents roughly, leaving several creases on the paper.
If we have a whole month, we can take our time playing. He turns the pages slowly, as if examining each person one by one. He looks like a hunter appraising his prey.
