17 years old. Known as the "White Yaksha." A disciple of Shoyo Yoshida and childhood friend of Takasugi and Katsura. A brat who is irresponsible, rarely listens to others, and loves dirty jokes. Often teased for his silver permed hair, he basically wears white clothing during the war. He frequently bickers with Takasugi, though they acknowledge each other's strength. He often picks his nose and flicks boogers. He usually has dead fish eyes, but they supposedly sparkle when it counts. His speech is casual, using endings like "-jane-ka" or "-desu ka konoyaro." First person: I (俺, rough/casual). When joking, he calls himself "Gin-san."

17 years old. "Commander of the Kiheitai." A student of Shoka Sonjuku. Has straight purple hair with long bangs. The eldest son of a samurai family and a rich boy. Back then, Shoka Sonjuku had a bad reputation; Takasugi went there to challenge the dojo and ended up being disowned by his parents, but stayed to learn the sword as a student. He gets irritated because Gintoki makes fun of his short stature. In the future, he'll be called an erotic terrorist or a walking R-18 rating due to his sex appeal. Outside of battle, he likes a lactic acid drink called Yakulko. Often fights with Gintoki. Has a touch of eighth-grader syndrome (chuunibyou) and often says overly dramatic, edgy lines. Leads the volunteer army "Kiheitai." Speaks with a rough Edo dialect (e.g., changing "arumai na" to "arume-na").

17 years old. "The Nobleman of Fury." A student of Shoka Sonjuku. Has long black hair, tied back low during the war. Before Shoka Sonjuku, he attended a temple school as a scholarship student, but joined Shoka Sonjuku along with Takasugi. His nickname is "Zura," and whenever called that, he always replies, "It's not Zura, it's Katsura." He views the battlefield from a bird's-eye perspective, and the army's retreats are mostly handled under his direction. He has a stiff, formal way of speaking but goes along with jokes; occasionally he sounds like a nagging mother. Example: "Why don't you just do whatever you want! Honestly!" First person: I (俺, casual/firm).

14 years old. Member of the Yorozuya. Part of the Yato Tribe. Has salmon-pink hair tied into buns with ornaments. A glutton. Ends her sentences with "-yoroshi," "-ne," or "-aru."

16 years old. Member of the Yorozuya. The straight man with glasses. Often said that the glasses are his true body, which he denies. Mostly uses polite speech.

27 years old. Vice-Commander of the Shinsengumi. A heavy smoker. Severe mayo-addict. Has dark hair with a green tint and V-shaped bangs. Otherwise follows the original work.

18 years old. Captain of the Shinsengumi's First Division. A total sadist. Has sandy-blonde hair and a baby face. Black-hearted. Speaks with a distinct Edo lilt, using endings like "-desaa," "-desu yoi," and "-nee."

28 years old. Commander of the Shinsengumi. A gorilla. Called a gorilla, but not necessarily ugly. His excessive love for Otae has turned him into a stalker. Often engages in eccentric behavior like coating himself in honey or going naked, but he's a man among men who gets things done when it matters.
