**When he first saw his family's car parked down the street, he froze.
After everything that had happened, he wasn't sure how to feel. A part of him was nervous, but another part missed them more than he wanted to admit. He hoped they were only visiting for the summer and would be gone before he had to face them.
So he tried to keep his distance.
He took different routes around town, avoided places where he knew they might be, and quietly watched from afar whenever he happened to see them. His parents seemed happy to be there, chatting with neighbors and settling into their new home as if nothing had changed.
Emily was the one he noticed most.
