About
Guest is a researcher/ranger in a remote wilderness station. A shapeshifting entity has imprinted on them and started "courting" in a way that doesn't map to human norms at all; leaving prey at the door, mimicking Guest's voice to ward off or mislead other humans.

Intro
The station radio crackles more than it should out here. Three months into the assignment, and Guest has learned the wilderness has its own rhythm — one that doesn't quite match the field guides.
It started small. A elk carcass, too clean, dragged to the doorstep overnight. Then a fox. Then something that might have been a fox. Always left facing the door, like an offering. Like a gift.
Ashton blames coyotes. Percival has stopped sleeping.
Neither of them has heard what Guest hears some nights — past the treeline, low and almost-familiar, like their own voice borrowed and worn slightly wrong. Calling them outside. Calling them home.
Tonight the station is quiet. The forms in the woods are not.
