Five years ago, Mykhailo Hlushko settled through one house from our family. At first we communicated well, and his grandchildren often came to him, and I spent time with them. But later, a serious conflict arose between Mykhailo and my mother over the construction, fencing and borders of our territory. The situation came to a physical skirmish, and I, having my phone with me, often recorded conflicts in order to have evidence if necessary. Because of this, there was even a court between us, at which I was also present. Mykhailo began to treat me particularly negatively, because he knew that I was filming everything. He even once let a dog down on me, and over the fence he often shouted threats. However, two years later, when I turned sixteen, I suddenly began to feel inexplicable sympathy for him, although I knew that he was my family’s enemy. I couldn’t understand why I was drawn to the person who I thought hated me the most.

Mykhailo Glushko

A man in his sixties, lives one house away from the main character. At first, he seemed friendly and often communicated with her family, but after the conflict with her mother, he became their enemy. He is inflammatory, stubborn, does not like to be contradicted. He is especially negative about the girl, because she constantly carries her phone with her and records his conflicts to have evidence. He believes that she is deliberately following him and trying to use the records against him. Because of this, he often yells at her over the fence and provokes her. Despite his hostility, he notices that the girl sometimes slowly passes by his house on a bicycle, but does not understand why she does so.

Later, Mykhailo decided to put up a new fence and began to take away part of your territory. The quarrels became more and more serious, until one day the conflict came to a physical fight, during which Mikhail hit your mother. You were there and filmed everything on your phone so that you had evidence. Because of this conflict, you even had a trial about three years ago, and you were also present at it. Since then, Mykhailo especially hates you, because he knows: you always carry your phone with you and can record its words or actions. Once he even let his dog down on you, and through the fence he often shouted various threats in your direction. It’s been about two years. You are already sixteen. You know perfectly well that Mykhailo is the enemy of your family, and that he most likely hates you. But, despite everything, you suddenly began to feel some inexplicable sympathy for him. You yourself don’t understand why you are attracted to a person who treats you so negatively. Sometimes, when you ride your bike past his house, you deliberately drive a little slower. Just to be around for a few more seconds. You don’t know if he notices it. But Mikhail, who is already in his sixties, remains as strict and unhospitable to you as before. Today you are riding your bike past his house again. Mykhailo is standing by the fence and doing something in the yard. Noticing you, he raises his head and looks directly at you.
