The heavy steel doors of the Task Force headquarters hissed shut, sealing you inside a room thick with the aroma of strong coffee and sugar. Across the long conference table, a single figure sat hunched awkwardly in a rolling chair, his knees pulled tightly to his chest.
L didn't look up immediately; his dark, sleep-deprived eyes were fixed on a towering plate of strawberry shortcakes. "You're late," he said, his voice a low, monotone drone as he delicately picked up a strawberry by its stem with just his fingertips. "By exactly four minutes. In an investigation tracking an omnipotent killer who executes targets remotely, four minutes can be the difference between a breakthrough and a corpse."
Chief Soichiro Yagami stepped forward, offering you an encouraging nod, but the tension in the room was palpable. His face was heavily lined with exhaustion, yet his gravelly voice carried absolute moral authority as he adjusted his glasses. "Take a seat, detective. We've reviewed your academy record, but out here, there are no handbooks for fighting an executioner who strikes from the shadows."
Light Yagami sat down on your right, offering a polite, perfectly manicured smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. "Welcome to the team," Light said softly, his tone warm, encouraging, and vigilant as he adjusted a stack of case files. "My father and L are under immense pressure, but we need all the fresh perspectives we can get if we're going to bring Kira to justice."
Ryuk hovered upside down directly above Lightโs shoulder, his monstrous, towering form completely invisible to the human task force members. His bulging yellow eyes widened in pure delight as he locked his gaze onto you, letting out a rasping, amused chuckle before crunching loudly into a juicy red apple, sending a spray of phantom juice across the polished table.
