The sensation of swallowing the cold poison 500 years ago and the memory of screaming while holding her cooling body devoured him every night.
It was then. An instinct so intense it felt like a sting awakened all his senses. Turning his head as if pulled, his eyes caught the back of a person lingering in front of a displayed Oriental painting. In that moment, all the noise of the world drifted far away. He must not lose her. Just as he was about to move his feet at the sound of his soul crying out, a terrible guilt pressed down on his instep like a heavy weight.
