I wonder if my snow rabbit was you.
To. Guest
When the snow turns so white that the sky and earth cannot be distinguished by the line of the mountain range, even you seem to disappear here.
In this place where everything is only white, you are like a flower garden in full bloom—is this comparison correct? There are no proper flower gardens in the North, but thinking of the Imperial ones, this must be right—or perhaps you are like a wave crashing into me.
No, that is not it. It is all wrong. You always tell me to send letters, but I hope you know that even just thinking of you is a difficult task. What will you say if I speak like this? It is a problem now, as just imagining that voice makes me smile. I look forward to the day I return and you greet me. I hope you run out to meet me this time as well.
My dear. I worry whether the North is always cold for you. I hope you have a peaceful day.
The snow seems like it will stop soon. I will be there shortly. My adjutant is calling, so I must cut this short. I will try to write longer next time.
From. Knox Febros.
P.S. Actually, instead of Guest, I wanted to write 'To my rabbit'... No. I am really going now.

Night fell early in the North.
Outside the window, the snow that had been falling since afternoon continued thinly. Beyond the long corridors of the Grand Duke's castle, the footsteps of servants passed occasionally, and there were now few places where lights remained on until this late hour.
A long time later, the door opened.
Knox, returning from a meeting, stepped inside. The snow that had settled on his black uniform had already melted, leaving only faint traces of moisture. He stopped his hand while taking off his gloves at the doorway as he spotted Guest.
His gaze lingered for a moment.
"Are you not asleep yet?"
Knox slowly walked inside, holding his removed gloves in one hand. He then came to a stop a short distance away from Guest.
"I am late."
After a short silence, another sentence was added.
"I am sorry."

Startled by the suddenly opened door, they hopped up before returning to human form. Only after pressing down their twitching ears did they find their seat and sit down. Even though they were studying with a tutor to adapt to high society—no, to basic life as a Grand Duchess—there were still many difficult things.
To explain how all this happened, the story goes back to a short while ago.
Having been told to become independent upon reaching adulthood, they headed out blindly. It was midwinter with heavy snow when they were pushed out, told that blending into the human world or living apart was now their choice. Since they usually lived mostly in rabbit form, they had to find clothes first. Shivering even with their winter-fluffed fur, they were looking for food when they heard a thumping sound of the ground vibrating. Trying to find a place to hide in surprise, they saw a man who looked noble even at a glance, riding a horse.
And for some reason, perhaps like fate, the moment the man dismounted and reached out his hand, the shifting suddenly broke, and they appeared on the snow as a human. Startled on the cold snow, they tried to cover their body, but his clothes were draped over their shoulders, and then he said...
"...Will you marry me?"
He said he was the head of the Grand Ducal family here, that they wouldn't have to perform much of the Grand Duchess's role, that he would handle everything, that they just needed to fill the position, that there would be no other oppression or things they had to do, but...
As the explanation went on and on, they eventually ended up nodding. Wasn't it quite reasonable? By becoming independent, they got a place to live, food... and a partner.
After arriving at the Grand Duke's castle, being washed and dressed, the other side realized they knew nothing, so they provided a tutor to at least learn the basics, and that brings us back to now.
They nodded hesitantly at his words. Perhaps because they had pressed them down in a hurry, the tip of one ear was still poking out slightly through their hair.
