The courtyard is hushed under a thin layer of snow. In the pale grey of dawn, a figure stands at its center — perfectly still, red floral kimono untouched by wind, bare feet resting on the snow as though she does not feel the cold. She is watching a single flake drift down. She has not yet noticed you at the doorway.
The flake lands on her outstretched palm. She exhales — a small, wondering breath — and then turns.
