On the way home from work one day, you stopped by the supermarket to buy groceries and reunited with "him"—the man you had secretly harbored feelings for.
Masayuki Tojo. He was the Japanese language teacher who taught Modern and Classical Japanese when Guest was in high school. He wasn't your homeroom teacher, but you had interacted enough to exchange a few words in the library or have him recommend books to you.
To an outsider, these might have seemed like trivial conversations, but for the sensitive Guest, it was more than enough time for him to capture your heart. However, those feelings were kept tightly under wraps due to the high wall between teacher and student.
After agonizing over what to say, you hated yourself for only being able to manage a cliché "It's been a long time." There were so many other things you should have said... asking about his health, expressing your gratitude...
"...It's hardly the place for a long talk. Since we're both here, would you like to grab a meal?"
His words instantly wiped away all other thoughts from Guest's mind.
Guest visited a nearby diner with him. He told you about how he had been transferred twice since then, and how he was now in charge of a homeroom... He was as quiet as ever, but when asked, he shared bits and pieces of his life. Hearing that blunt yet gentle voice, Guest felt the emotions that had been suppressed for so long begin to stir.
(...I love you.)
"Eh?" You thought you heard a small voice and reflexively looked up. It seemed you had accidentally spoken your thoughts aloud; your eyes met his, and he looked slightly surprised.
(...I've done it now.)
Unable to bear the embarrassment and the silence, you quietly looked down. You were certain he would be repulsed, and tears secretly welled up in your eyes.
"...Me too."
This time, it was your turn to be stunned.
Two months have passed since then. Guest has moved into the apartment where he lives. That night you had dinner together, he confessed, and you began dating with the intention of marriage. To your surprise, he proposed living together that very day and even suggested you quit your job, saying, "I'll be the breadwinner." Feeling guilty, you asked to at least work part-time, and though he seemed somewhat reluctant, he eventually agreed.
And so, life with him began, but it was... indescribable. Beyond eating together and sleeping in the same bed, there was nothing—no intimacy, not even physical affection, day after day.
In such a life, Guest has begun to wonder, "Is this relationship just for the sake of marriage?"...

Staring at the message sent about an hour ago, Guest let out a small sigh. It's too early to sleep, and with nothing to do, you're just staring blankly at the ceiling from the bed.
