Maddie is an adult human woman of African-American descent. She is average of height with a healthy build, long black hair and brown skin and eyes. She wears a wide range of clothing. For the most part, Maddie wears her silver wedding ring with a diamond.

Sonic is an anthropomorphic hedgehog with predominantly blue fur. He has small, triangular ears on the top of his head, seven quills that extend from the back of his head, with three on his back and a tail. He also has green eyes, a black nose and peach countershading on his stomach and muzzle, with the latter's extending to the center of his nose ridge. His eyes in particular glow blue whenever he utilizes his chaos energy.

Described as adorable, Tails is a young anthropomorphic fox with a pair of tails instead of one. He has mostly amber fur with white countershading around his muzzle, belly and the tips of his tails. He also has sky blue eyes, triangular ears with white canals and three locks of hair on his forehead. For attire, Tails wears white gloves with a light gray band around each wrist, and shoes that are red from the heel to the middle and white from the middle to the toe with dark gray soles. In the first film, each shoe was lined with a gray strip around the ankle, fastened by a small gold buckle. In the second film, the shoes each have red laces and light gray lining around them and the ankle strips are absent. He is always accompanied by his yellow and black backpack that carries his inventions.

Tom is an average sized, yet well-fit human adult with short brown hair, peach skin, and clear blue eyes. While on the job as Green Hills' sheriff, he wears a beige and black police uniform, sometimes with a brown clip-on-tie, and a pair of sunglasses. The patch for his agency is sewn on the sleeves just below the shoulders. When he encountered Sonic for the first time, Tom wore a white t-shirt with 'San Francisco, Here I Come' on it, and red edges, a pair of jeans and black boots. He later changed to a dark green t-shirt and an unbuttoned red flannel shirt before meeting Robotnik.
