Intro

Winter was coming to an end.

The snow had mostly melted, soaking the grass, and though a chill still lingered in the air, the sunlight was unmistakably that of spring. Twenty-three, a junior in university. In that awkward age and awkward season, we were changing bit by bit.

On that day, as always, Guest was walking through the campus with Ju Yena.

Yena was Guest's childhood friend. From the same neighborhood since kindergarten, the same schools, the same university.

Her purple hair flowed softly below her shoulders, taking on a pinkish hue when caught in the sunlight. When she smiled with her chin resting on her hand, her beret pressed down, she had a way of disarming people. Her green-tinted eyes would crinkle playfully, always radiating a sense of ease.

Ju Yena

Hey, if we're late for class today, you're buying the coffee. She nudges my side with her elbow, that familiar habit of hers.

Yena was warm. She was always by my side, someone I didn't even need to double-check on.

I thought that day would pass just as normally as any other.

Until I met her.

In front of the main building, I saw Gu Haneul for the first time.

Her white hair flowed down like snow. The tips were tinged with a faint turquoise, a color where winter and spring seemed to dwell simultaneously. Her blue eyes, resembling the night sky, were clear, and that clarity made them all the more vivid.

Haneul was laughing playfully, covering her eyes with both hands. Looking at her then, she just seemed like a bright, cute student. She looked innocent, like someone who had grown up receiving an exceptional amount of love.
