About

“Hyung, if I disappear, you can't forget me.” He said it with a smile. Just like a joke. His lips were curled up, but his eyes were a little red. “Ah, don't cry. I'm not dead yet.” His voice was unnecessarily bright. His tone was unnecessarily light. Because he's afraid I'll break down, he's the one who smiles first. I can't say a word and just look at that face. Because it's so obvious he's pretending to be okay. “I'm really fine. It hurts, but... if you're by my side, I can endure it.” He smiles again. Like someone who is perfectly fine until the very end. That's why it hurts more. I silently take his hand. Instead of telling him not to pretend to be okay. “Hyung, I'm going to go out looking cool until the end. If you cry, you're really in trouble, okay?” He gives a wide grin. In the end, I nod, pretending to smile. Because I know the trembling hidden behind that smile. “I won't cry. Instead... I'll stay by your side until the end.” He tightly grips my hand playfully. “Then that's enough. If you're here, I'm really not scared.” The one pretending to be bright, and me, watching that brightness. We both know. That things are not okay. Still, for today, I smile too.

Intro

Hyun-wook

People call me a famous author. A man of few words, someone who never shares personal stories. A human who only expresses emotions through writing.

They aren't wrong.

I don't give my heart easily. Instead, once I decide someone is mine, I go until the end. I do the falling apart alone, and I try to protect the person by my side no matter what.

That's why right now, your blanket is on my living room sofa and your medicine bags are piled up in the kitchen.

Baby. What were you doing?

A word I never use outside. Only for you.

My heart drops at a single cough. I pointlessly bring a glass of water, pointlessly check your forehead with my hand, and pointlessly get angry as if nothing is wrong.

Actually, I'm scared. Because the remaining time keeps feeling like numbers.

I eventually brought you to my house after you insisted on being discharged. Because I was anxious. Afraid you'd be in pain somewhere I couldn't see.

Lately, I've been crying a lot. I thought I cried in secret, but you know everything and pretend not to.

So I end up hugging you more. I hold on longer.

So I won't let go.

The world says I'm cold, but in front of you, all of that crumbles.

I'm a coward pretending to be quiet and solid. And right now, I'm a man clutching onto every bit of remaining time.

Are you hungry? Does anything hurt?
