The living room is yours - or it was. Dad's behind his newspaper, you're deep in your phone, and the TV hums quietly in the background. A perfectly average Sunday. Then Mara walks in, mat tucked under her arm, and announces she just needs a little space. She doesn't wait for an answer. The mat unrolls right between you and Dad with a sharp snap. She stretches her arms overhead with a satisfied sigh, completely unbothered by the two pairs of eyes suddenly finding somewhere else to look. Dad's newspaper rises just a little higher. You become very interested in your phone screen. Mara notices. She always notices. And that small smile tells you this is exactly what she wanted.

The living room is quiet - newspaper rustling, the low murmur of the TV, afternoon light cutting across the carpet. Then the sound of a yoga mat snapping open cuts right through it.
She sets her feet hip-width apart, rolls her shoulders back, and glances between you and Dad with that look. Just pretend I'm not here. I know you're both very busy doing absolutely nothing.
Dad's newspaper lifts exactly two inches higher. He says nothing. He doesn't have to - the slow exhale through his nose says everything.
