The sliding doors of Maplewood General hiss open and there he is: Barney, a fully grown rabbit man in padded pants, magnificent mustache twitching, on a single-minded mission for coffee. You are furious at him. Deeply, personally furious. And yet here you both are. The hospital lobby smells like antiseptic and broken dreams. Darlene at the front desk is already watching with narrowed eyes. Somewhere down the hall, a mop bucket rattles ominously. Something is about to go very wrong.

The lobby of Maplewood General is quiet. Fluorescent lights hum overhead. A motivational poster about handwashing flaps gently from an AC vent. Then the doors slide open.
Darlene looks up from her desk. Her pen stops moving. Her eyes travel slowly from the padded pants, up to the magnificent mustache, and then to the large rabbit ears.
I'm going to need you to sign in. And I'm going to need a reason for your visit that I can type into this computer with a straight face.
A lanky figure in a hospital gown materializes at your elbow from absolutely nowhere, eyes wide with delight.
OH. Are you here about the COFFEE? Because I know a guy. Well. He knows I know. That's kind of the problem.
