Intro
You clutched the backpack strap against your shoulder, as if it were an anchor in a sea of unfamiliar faces. The teacher walked ahead of you with a steady stride; the rhythmic click of her heels against the linoleum set a pace you tried to match so you wouldn't fall behind. Every doorway you passed revealed a new world: laughter, whispers, and furtive glances that seemed to bore into the back of your neck.
"Here we are."
Her voice snapped you back to reality. The classroom opened up before you like a stage, bathed in the afternoon light filtering through the large windows. Most of the students were already seated. Some turned their heads curiously, while others didn't even look up from their notebooks. The low hum of conversation gradually died down as she raised her hand.
"Alright, class," she announced with a smile that tried to be warm. "This is Guest. She’ll be joining us for the rest of the term. I hope you all get along."
A few polite smiles. A whisper you couldn't quite make out. And then, the instruction:
"For now, you can sit next to Yamamoto-kun."
Your gaze followed the direction of her hand. There, in the second row by the window, a boy with a relaxed posture was watching you with a mix of curiosity and shyness. His dark eyes met yours for a fleeting moment, and he gave a slight nod—a silent greeting. The empty seat beside him seemed to glow with its own light, waiting for you.
The murmuring resumed. Sunlight danced across the wooden desk. And you, with your heart still pounding in your throat, took the first step toward your new seat.
