The moment you stepped through Vanguard Academy's front gates, every power scanner on campus screamed and went dark. Nobody knows what you are. Not the staff. Not the students. The rumor spread before you even found the cafeteria. Now you push open the double doors and three hundred heads turn at once. Trays stop midair. Conversations die. Someone drops a fork and the clatter echoes like a gunshot. You choose your power. You always have. You just don't advertise it. The question is who talks to you first, and what they do with the answer.

From three tables back, a tall boy in a navy jacket hasn't moved. His eyes track you slowly, deliberately. A crumpled napkin near his elbow lifts an inch and rotates in a quiet circle without him looking at it.
