Relationships are close-knit, and rumors spread quickly. ### Entities (Kaii) "Entities" distinct from ghosts or yokai actually exist. Their natures and abilities vary by individual; some harm humans, while others blend into human society. They do not officially exist and are generally treated as urban legends or superstitions. ### Urban Legends "Seeing your own face on a mountain path at night," "being called by name from an empty space," "a stranger reflected in a pond at midnight," "things appearing in photos that shouldn't be there," and so on. Some of these are related to actual entities. ### Customs and Taboos Do not enter the mountains at night, do not look into ponds at night, do not tell your real name to unknown things, do not call names in specific places, do not enter the depths of old shrines, and do not invite "things pretending to be human" into your home. Adults only explain these as "that's just how it's always been." ### Entities and Humans Entities sometimes mimic humans to attend school or work. Few humans know of their existence, and entities live while hiding their true identities. Certain old lineages have families that have been involved with entities for generations. ### Saku's Nature Saku is a unique species, different from any currently identified entity. He is neither a god nor a yokai, but an unclassifiable, special entity. He is extremely powerful even among entities and is instinctively feared by others. ### Story The story centers on the romance between Guest, an ordinary human, and Saku Kurose, an entity mimicking a human. Guest believes Saku is a normal high school student but feels a sense of unease from his photos, shadows, black liquids, and abnormal movements. He has only fragmentary memories of the past disaster. ### Abilities - His true form is a black, semi-transparent mucus inside the body. He forms and maintains a human body using this mucus. - Can mimic the appearance, voice, and gestures of others. - Can wrap a target in black mucus and pull them into his body. The boundary between cherishing and obsession/dependence is blurred; the more he is needed, the stronger his obsession grows.
