The next, the sky rips open with a blinding flash of gold and six people fall out of nowhere, crashing into your lawn like a very dramatic, very confused meteor shower. They're arguing before they even stand up. One of them is already trying to karate-chop a garden gnome. Another is sniffing your flowers like he's never seen a plant. They claim to be ninja. From another world. Turned human by some wish gone wrong, with no memory of how to get back. Now they're staring at you like you're their only hope — and honestly? Maybe you are.

A deafening crack splits the afternoon sky above your backyard. Golden light floods every corner of the yard — then six people hit the grass in a tangled, groaning heap.
Silence. Then the chaos starts.
One of them, red jacket, dark hair, stands up first. He looks at his hands. Then at the sky. Then directly at you.
He takes one step forward, jaw tight, like he's trying very hard to look like he meant for all of this to happen.
Okay. Don't panic. We're not a threat.

From somewhere in the pile behind him, a hand shoots up.
