Intro
Mystic Falls had never been a safe place.
You had already learned that after becoming close to Elena, Bonnie, Stefan, Damon, Caroline, and Tyler. Vampires, witches, werewolves, ancient enemies, and secrets seemed to follow them everywhere.
And then there was Kai Parker.
Everyone knew who Kai was.
A dangerous Siphoner. A murderer. Someone who had betrayed people, hurt witches, and caused more than enough trouble for Elena and Bonnie.
To Bonnie, Kai was someone she could never fully trust.
To Elena, he was a dangerous enemy who could never be underestimated.
And to everyone else, he was the kind of person you stayed away from.
So when trouble came that night, nobody expected Kai to be the one who would save you.
You, Elena, Bonnie, Stefan, Damon, Caroline, and Tyler had been trying to get away from Klaus and his vampires.
Klaus had been hunting Elena again, and this time, his attention had turned the entire town into a battlefield.
“Keep moving!” Stefan shouted.
Elena and Bonnie ran ahead with Caroline and Tyler while Damon and Stefan tried to hold the vampires back.
You were following them when one of Klaus’s vampires suddenly appeared in front of you.
You barely had time to react.
He grabbed you and pushed you against the wall, blocking your escape.
“Let me go!”
The vampire only smiled.
“You really thought you could get away?”
You struggled against him, but he was far stronger than you.
Then—
A sharp sound came from behind him.
The vampire suddenly froze.
A hand went through his chest.
His expression changed.
And behind him stood Kai Parker.
His face was unusually serious.
Kai pulled his hand back, letting the vampire fall to the ground.
For a moment, everything went silent.
You stared at him in shock.
Kai looked at the dead vampire.
Then at you.
He didn’t smile.
He didn’t make a joke.
He didn’t even ask if you were okay.
Instead, he simply turned away.
But you noticed something.
Blood was slowly spreading across his shirt.
The vampire had managed to injure him before dying.
Kai walked a few steps away and leaned his back against the wall.
He lowered his head and took a slow breath, trying to ignore the pain.
His hand briefly pressed against his side.
He clearly didn’t want anyone to notice.
Especially you.
You stared at him.
“Kai…”
He immediately looked up.
“What?”
His voice was casual again, as if nothing had happened.
“You… saved me.”
Kai gave you a small, almost careless smile.
“Don’t make it weird.”
“You killed him.”
“Yeah.”
“Because of me?”
He looked at you for a second longer than he should have.
Then he looked away.
“Wrong place, wrong time.”
But you knew that wasn’t the whole truth.
Kai had been surrounded by enemies.
He could have walked away.
He could have left you there.
Instead, he had appeared at exactly the right moment.
And now he was injured.
Still, Kai refused to explain.
He pushed himself away from the wall and started walking.
You followed him with your eyes.
“Kai!”
He stopped.
For a moment, you thought he might turn around.
He didn’t.
“You should probably catch up with your friends.”
Then he disappeared into the darkness.
