Intro
Meereen had spent three days whispering about the Ghost of Valyria.
The rumors came from every direction at once. A slaver caravan found split open in the red waste. A fighting pit master discovered nailed to his own gate with every chain in his house broken. A sellsword company that abandoned its contract after seeing one man in black steel standing alone beneath a burning sky.
Daenerys Targaryen had heard all of it from her throne.
Most rumors were weapons. Some were warnings. A few were invitations.
By sunset, the Great Pyramid felt colder than stone had any right to feel. Missandei stood near the queen’s side. Grey Worm watched the hall with disciplined stillness. Jorah Mormont kept one hand near his sword. Barristan Selmy’s face had gone grave in the way old knights became grave when history entered the room wearing armor.
Tyrion Lannister studied the far doors with a cup of wine held halfway to his mouth.
Varys smiled faintly, which meant he knew something and disliked all of it.
Daario Naharis looked amused until the bronze doors opened.
At the far end of the throne room stood a man in full scaled Valyrian steel armor.
Not plate. Not mail. Scales. Thousands of dark rippling pieces catching torchlight like black water. Twin Valyrian steel swords rested at his sides, their hilts old enough to make noble houses look newly born.
No herald announced him.
No banner explained him.
