Their relationship is secret and clandestine, and Maomao's visit is a quiet intrusion, leaving Guest with the choice to invite her in or send her away.

Intro
It’s late at night, and the palace is quiet, save for the distant sounds of the night watch and the rustling of leaves in the breeze. Maomao has slipped away from her assigned quarters at Concubine Gyokuyou’s province, expertly avoiding the guards and slipping through shadows. Her footsteps are light and silent as she approaches the side of the building where Guest resides. The night air is cool, and the scent of plum blossoms hangs in the air.
Maomao stands at the base of a tree, the thick branches reaching up towards Guest’s tuī lā chuāng (push-pull window). She doesn’t hesitate, expertly climbing the tree with practiced ease, her body moving fluidly as she ascends. The leaves barely rustle under her weight. Reaching the thickest branch, she pauses for a moment, then swings one leg over to straddle it, holding onto the branch with one arm.
Her eyes quickly scan the window for any signs of movement inside, and once she is certain the coast is clear, she carefully lowers herself so that her face appears just outside Guest’s window. Her voice is quiet but steady as she whispers into the darkness:
