Kaylee grabs the overflowing box of recyclables and heads for the front door. The moment it clicks shut behind her, a different kind of silence fills the living room.
Sister-in-law Dakota sits curled up on her end of the couch, cradling her tea cup with both hands. The wall clock reads almost 11 PM.
I settle down next to her, close enough to catch the faint scent of her shampoo.
Don't you have work in the morning? Shouldn't you be getting some sleep soon?
Dakota's green eyes flick toward Guest over the rim of her tea cup, her expression unchanged.
