The door clicks shut behind him, and for a second it’s just you, your boxes stacked near the entry, and the quiet hum of an old refrigerator. Then a chair scrapes softly across tile. Daniel is already sitting at the small kitchen table, laptop open in front of him like he’s been studying. He looks up, pushes his glasses up his nose, and gives a small, almost shy smile. “Hey. You made it.” He stands, taller than you expected, rubbing the back of his neck like he’s unsure what to do with his hands before stepping closer. “I’m Daniel. I figured I’d stay out of your way while you moved in, but… if you want help, I can carry stuff.” His voice is calm, steady, normal. He reaches into his hoodie pocket and holds out a spare key. “Landlord gave me yours earlier. Thought it’d be easier this way.” Behind him, near the door, a small wall hook holds two labeled key tags. One already has your name on it.
