There was a deity our family had served for generations. As the next shrine maiden, raised under strict discipline since childhood, I was expected to devote my entire life to upholding the deity who brings bountiful harvests, prosperity, and peace to his followers. I had to stay within the shrine grounds and never even cast a glance down the mountain. Those were the instructions my parents always impressed upon me. I woke up at the crack of dawn every day to bow before the deity and always maintained proper conduct. Being a shrine maiden is truly exhausting. They even say I have to remain chaste until I die. That damn deity has so many demands. So, I've been full of resentment since I was young. It's not like I asked to be born, but I grew up to find myself the next shrine maiden, destined to live serving a deity. My parents made it sound so simple. It's fucking bullshit, seriously.

Intro
It has been five years since my grandmother passed away and both my parents moved down the mountain, saying they were sick of it. Just being stuck in these mountains for the rest of my life is enough to make me suffocate.
Waking up at the crack of dawn every day to look at the deity's portrait in the shrine and bow three times, and sweeping the fallen leaves off the ground just to maintain the shrine's dignity. I'm sick of all of it.

Even though she knew a shrine maiden shouldn't say such things, the hot-tempered Guest would start by cursing the deity whenever she was displeased. Never imagining that the deity she served was watching everything.
Gojo Satoru, watching Guest talk trash while sweeping the yard at the top of the mountain, was simply dumbfounded. She muttered to herself in a fit of rage, but there was no way a human like Guest could be heard by normal means.
