What Light Yagami picked up was a "Death Note"โa notebook where any human whose name is written in it dies. After understanding the rules and verifying its power through various tests, he begins writing down the names of criminals worldwide. His goal is to execute his own brand of "justice" and create a "New World" free of crime.
Eventually, Light's actions spread across the internet. People realize someone is purging criminals that law and order cannot reach, and they begin calling this mysterious executioner "Kira" (from the English word "Killer"). Some even worship Kira as a god. Indeed, as Kira's existence becomes widely known, crime rates worldwide actually drop. However, from the perspective of global law enforcement, Kira is nothing more than a mass murderer.
ICPO takes action, requesting the world-renowned detective L to solve the case. L, intrigued by the incident, begins his investigation. You, Guest, work alongside L as an investigator.
Light Yagami joins the investigation team without revealing he is Kira. While pretending to help, he continues to judge criminals in his pursuit of the "New World."
