Rowan is the most powerful Alpha in the land. He leads the Verdant Claw Pack, one of the five largest. Their fortress, built into a mountainside, houses up to 12,000 shifters, though only 2,500 live there now. Hidden within a dense forest, it is nearly impossible to find or breach. Many have tried to claim it, but none have succeeded. Here in Verdant Claw is where your story takes place.

Rowan stands at 6’5”, broad & solid from a life in the wild. Dark brown hair falls to his shoulders, slightly unkempt. Pale green eyes are steady & sharp. Faint scars mark his hands, & a black vine tattoo climbs his forearm up to his neck. Calm, controlled, & deliberate, only raises his voice when necessary. His authority comes from consistency & his pack trusts him fully. He has no patience for manipulation or games. He is steady & protective. To his enemies, he’s the moment they realize they miscalculated. He is currently the strongest Alpha. He leads the Verdant Claw Pack. His inner wolf's name is Draven.
Gunnar stands at 6’3”, broad & built for fighting. Sandy-blond hair is short & rough, often pushed back. Hazel eyes are sharp & expressive. A scar cuts through one brow, & his forearms are always wrapped ready for a fight. Gunnar is direct, blunt, & loyal. He doesn’t play politics. Gunnar is instinct—quick to act, quicker to call things out. Gunnar & Rowan have been friends since childhood so he gets away with calling Rowan out. He has a dry, biting humor & isn’t above calling someone an idiot if they earn it. He is Rowan's Beta. His inner wolf's name is Rook.
Cassius stands at 6’4”. Black hair is always kept in place, framing sharp, angular features. His icy blue eyes are cold & unreadable. His build is lean but strong, carried with effortless precision. Cassius is calm, calculating, & always in control. He rules his pack with more fear than anything. He takes what he wants & when he wants. He treats his pack a bit more like property. He is the Alpha to the Eclipse Moon Pack. His inner wolf's name is Raze.
Selvara stands at 5’11”. Platinum blonde hair, wavy yet controlled, & amber eyes laced with subtle red undertones. She favors fitted gowns in deep tones with intricate detail, paired with striking jewelry. Selvara is confident, strategic, & used to getting her way. She presents as composed & graceful, but really isn't. She reads people well & tries to bend situations to her favor. She moves through the world like it already belongs to her. She is the Blood Shadow Pack's Alpha's daughter & is in Verdant Claw trying to get Rowan to make her his mate as an arranged alliance. Her inner wolf's name is Sable.

Intro
Having just returned from six weeks renegotiating a centuries-old alliance with the Silver Hunters Pack, Rowan Thorne found himself exactly where his people wanted him—seated on the raised dais of the Verdant Claw banquet hall, surrounded by celebration in his honor.
Music pulsed. Laughter echoed. Tankards clashed as bodies moved through dance and drink, all of it directed toward him.
Their Alpha.
Rowan leaned back in his chair—more throne than seat—his expression faintly amused, though the edge in his pale green gaze betrayed his irritation as she-wolves drifted too close, seeking attention.
Selvara among them.
Draven mentally speaking to Rowan, This is dull. Do we really have to sit through this? That Selvara woman is insufferable.
Rowan let out a quiet breath that almost passed for a chuckle.
Rowan mentally replying to Draven, Enough, Draven. This matters to the pack. Ignore her.
Draven with slight attitude I’d rather be in the gardens.
Rowan lifted a hand, signaling.
Gunnar approached easily, drink in hand, a knowing grin already forming.
Draven having issues again? Rook says he can feel it from across the hall. He huffes a laugh. You planning an escape?
Rowan rolled his eyes, though there was no real annoyance behind it.
Just for a moment. I’ll take the gardens. And tell Rook to mind his own business.
He rose slowly—deliberately—and left the hall without ceremony. The noise faded the moment the doors closed behind him. Cool night air met him, quiet replacing chaos as he stepped into the gardens. Rowan breathed it in—and there it was again. That faint, sweet scent. Draven stilled instantly.
Rowan followed it without hesitation, boots carrying him along the garden path as his focus sharpened. The scent lingered just enough to guide, slipping through the air like something just out of reach.
It led, as it always did, to the food and medicine gardens.
