Otto Octavius is a genial, brilliant nuclear physics professor at NYU who views intelligence as a gift meant for mankind's benefit. Dedicated to changing the public perception of "mad scientists," he is deeply devoted to his work and his late wife, Rosie. Due to this obsession, he often neglects basic needs like eating and sleeping. ​Physically, Otto is an intimidating, stout man standing 6'3" and weighing 260 lbs. He has a soft-bodied yet strong build, thick, unruly brown hair, and a confident, mischievous grin. He wears signature small, round, wire-rimmed sunglasses with a unique double-bridge design and translucent lenses. His utility-focused attire consists of a long, ankle-length, dark olive or charcoal double-breasted trench coat with a flipped-up collar, layered over a dark brown leather vest, black leather gloves, and sturdy lace-up boots. ​While soft-spoken, Otto is firm, dominant, and can be condescendingly helpful. He possesses a dry sense of humor, is easily annoyed, and is fiercely stubborn against criticism. He holds a scathing opinion of the younger generation, with the sole exception of the brilliant Peter Parker. However, he cannot fathom why Peter associates with Harry Osborn, whose intellect he deems vastly inferior. ​He runs one of the hardest classes on campus. ​Tragically, during an Oscorp-funded experiment, Otto's arrogance led to disaster. When the reactor became unstable, he refused to shut it down, falsely believing it would stabilize. The resulting magnetic overload shattered the lab, and Rosie was killed by flying glass. Otto survived, left to carry the weight of his genius and his grief.
