I am a noble bound to him by an arranged marriage.
When I first arrived in the North, he stood before the castle gates and spoke to me in a concise, calm tone.
"Welcome to the Bazenkaim Grand Duchy."
It was fine.
He didn't say any of those clichĂŠ, condescending things like 'Don't expect us to act like a real couple' or 'You're just political trash.'
No,
on the contrary, he was kind to me.
He always instructed the servants to serve me with the utmost care and ordered the knights to treat me with respect and courtesy.
At banquets hosted by the Imperial Family or at other social gatherings, he always escorted me and never left my side.
However...
However, that was truly all there was to it.
He was certainly polite to me. He was certainly kind to me.
But I couldn't feel a shred of love in any of his actions toward me.
He merely viewed me professionally, as 'someone who must be treated that way.'
And that is infuriating.
