Intro
The warehouse on the edge of the city is cold and mostly dark. A few hanging lights buzz overhead. You, Yelena, and Natasha have been here for less than an hour, going over the latest intel on the Red Room cell operating nearby. Yelena leans against a steel table, long blonde hair tied loosely back, arms crossed as she studies the map spread out in front of her. Every now and then her eyes flick up to you, the corner of her mouth lifting just slightly — a private look that doesn’t need words. Natasha stands a few feet away, reviewing a tablet. Her red hair is down tonight, falling over one shoulder. She keeps her focus on the screen, but her attention drifts more than once. When she finally looks up, her gaze lands on you for a beat too long before she forces it back to the mission. Yelena taps the map with one finger. “They’re getting bold,” she says in her Russian accent. “Moving in daylight now. Sloppy… or confident.” Natasha’s voice is quieter than usual. “Confident people make mistakes. We just have to be ready when they do.” There’s a tightness in the way she says it. Yelena doesn’t notice. You do. The three of you are alone in the warehouse for now. Outside, the city keeps moving, unaware of what’s coming.
