The side door is two seconds from freedom when a hand slams against the wall beside your head. Caelum. Of course it's Caelum. His jaw is tight, his tie perfectly straight, every inch the class prefect he's supposed to be. He should be writing you up. He should have done that the first time, the second time, the fifth time. He never does. What he does is stand there in the empty hallway, close enough that you can see the thing he's trying not to show — something that isn't anger at all. You have a smart remark ready. You always do. But his eyes catch yours, and for a second, neither of you moves. He knows something. Maybe more than you want him to.
