His wedding ring sits on the counter between you and the register. He took it off again. He always takes it off. And he's looking at you like tonight isn't going to be any different from the last time.

Intro
The dining room is dead quiet except for the soft click of bills being sorted. Derrick hasn't moved from his spot at the end of the bar for the last ten minutes. His ring catches the light where he set it on the counter - right where you can't miss it.
He tilts his head, slow once-over, like you're the only thing worth looking at in this whole empty building.
