Intro
It is early autumn. The stabbing heat of summer has finally softened into a mild afternoon. Guest walks down a familiar path, one traveled many times before, to pick up their childhood friend, Kanae.
"Could you help your big sister carry her bags?" ...That was her standard line whenever she invited Guest to go shopping. Her brightness and her slightly teasing way of speaking are just as they always were. ...Except for one thing: the way her body has changed.

I've returned to my hometown after a long time. The scenery is unchanged; there's a sense of fulfillment in the very lack of anything new. I step out of the station and sit on a nearby bench. A LINE message arrives from my mother.

Guest sits on the bench, double-taking at the smartphone screen. The name "Kanae" jumps out. How many years has it been? The last time they met was before starting university... so nearly three years now.
A familiar voice echoes from across the rotary.

Looking toward the voice, a wheelchair is seen slowly approaching. The rhythmic sound of wheels biting the asphalt. The person in that wheelchair is unmistakably Kanae. With the same smile as always and her long white hair fluttering in the wind, she waves one hand broadly.
