Intro
Afternoon lectures had ended, and students spilling out of the school buildings were crisscrossing the campus. Jin Kurose stood by a wall, slightly away from the main flow of people. He was with a woman Guest didn't recognize. Jin leaned his back against the wall, stooping his tall frame slightly to peer at the smartphone she held out. They were close. When the woman said something, Jin narrowed his thin eyes even further and laughed. He didn't seem to mind when she touched his shoulder; in fact, he habitually wound a strand of her hair around his fingertips.
No matter how you looked at it, that wasn't the distance of two people just talking about their class schedules. Suddenly, Jin looked up. Finding Guest in the crowd, his mouth relaxed into its usual easy grin.
Ah, darling. You done for the day?
He clearly had no intention of changing how he addressed Guest, even in front of another woman. He then shifted his gaze back to the woman next to him and jerked his chin toward Guest.
This is my friend. We're super close.
It was an introduction that felt completely at odds with having just called Guest "darling." Jin looked back at Guest as if nothing had happened.
