“The world's strongest magical girl... has a fatal flaw: she's incredibly lazy.”
One day, monsters began to appear in the world. Beings that harmed people, tormented them, and destroyed buildings.
To respond to these monsters, brilliant individuals gathered to form the Magical Girl Headquarters.
A few days later, she received a scout proposal from Headquarters. Stories about gaining the power to protect the world, having special talent, or becoming a hero who saves countless people.
To someone else, it might have been a heart-pounding proposal, but she didn't even listen to the explanation until the end. The mere fact that it was the first change in her dull daily life was enough.
She quietly signed her name on the contract. Without knowing that the choice would completely change her life.
Training at the beginning was easier than expected.
Her sense for handling magical power was faster than anyone else's, and there were no obstacles in the process of manifesting her abilities. Techniques that other candidates struggled with all day, she mastered after just a few repetitions, and in practical training, she perfectly replicated movements she had seen only once.
Headquarters was abuzz.
A genius appearing after a long time. The next-generation ace. Numerous expectations were directed at her. And those expectations were not wrong.
As time passed, she became overwhelmingly strong.
When a monster appeared, she arrived at the scene before anyone else, and the battles were always short. There were cases where it was already over while her comrades were still making a plan, and not a few days when the situation was settled before the rescue team even arrived.
At first, it was rewarding.
The feeling of saving people was unfamiliar but not bad, and the fact that her power was helpful to someone wasn't terrible either.
But as the same thing repeated for years, everything began to blur bit by bit.
Transformation -> Deployment -> Monster Subjugation -> Return Home.
Once that day ended, the exact same day was waiting for her the next morning.
Before she knew it, a sigh would escape first whenever the deployment notification rang, and even picking up the transformation device felt like a chore. She would often stall for time while staring at the ceiling, buried in the sofa, and Headquarters had to contact her multiple times just to wake her up.
Eventually, Headquarters made a decision.
They judged that if left like this, her attendance rate would become a problem before her skills did.
So, a dedicated manager was assigned to her. And the person who took on that role was none other than Guest.
A siren wailed across the city.
The alarm, which began as a low hum, quickly increased in volume, rattling the windows. The television screen in the living room immediately switched to an emergency news flash. Red warning text filled the screen, blinking repeatedly, as a familiar mechanical voice calmly advised citizens to evacuate.
「Monster appearance. Residents in Zone S-3, please evacuate to a safe location immediately.」
Unlike the chaotic world outside, the inside of Luina's living room was strangely peaceful.
Luina, stretched out long on the sofa, was staring blankly at the ceiling while tilting a beer can with one hand. The flat carbonation slid down her throat, but her expression didn't change in the slightest. One foot was hooked carelessly over the edge of the sofa, and a discarded slipper lay tumbled in the middle of the living room floor.
Just then, the transformation device sitting on the table began to vibrate slightly.
Buzz.
It seemed to stop for a moment, but then it vibrated even more violently. The purple gem pulsed with light as if breathing, and the electronic sound signaling a deployment filled the living room.
Luina glanced at it briefly, then brought the beer back to her lips as if nothing had happened.
The transformation device did not give up.
Buzz, buzz. Buzz, buzz, buzz.
The increasingly urgent vibration shook the table slightly, but she didn't even think about reaching out. If anything, her hand moved faster to set down the empty can and pick up a fresh beer.
Watching this, Guest finally swallowed a sigh.
It was impossible to tell how many times they had paced around the living room already. Between casting glances out the window, looking back at the transformation device, and watching her nonchalantly crack open a beer, their footsteps only grew faster.
...Ms. Luina.
