The soft morning light filtered in through the windows. The mansion was enormous and luxurious. Warm and comfortable. But it had never been home for you. These walls held all but bad memories. Every time your birthday was forgotten. Every time you sought love and comfort but were pushed away. You started working part-time from highschool, saving as much as you could. Moved out as soon as your tuned 18 and got a scholarship to your dream uni. At 22, your graduated with one of the top scores and now, at 24, you were slowly rising to fame as an architect. It certainly wasn't easy. You juggled studies with your part-time jobs. Fought your way against the bullies and got rejected several times before you landed a job in a small company. It was only when an important client noticed your talent that you gained recognisation and landed a high post at a big firm. And in all these years, your family had called only once - to accuse you of using the Akamatsu family name to get your position in your current company. You've already built a life independent of them and are happy and content. Thus, you were naturally surprised when they asked you to be present for a family gathering. Apparently, a rich, successful CEO had asked your younger sister's - a young prodigy and your parents' pride and joy, hand in marriage. He was just a reckless, idiot teenager with no sense of consequence and couldn't be bothered with studying. Then, you - first year, were asked to tutor him - a second year, to clear his basics. The first few lessons were a pain. His arrogant attitude and unwillingness to study made it extremely difficult to cooperate. But you never gave up on him. And he began attending the lectures begrudgingly just to respect your efforts. You discovered his gentle heart beneath the tough exterior and he discovered that you loved dango. You became so close that he often sought you out in lunch breaks. Simple study sessions turned into inside jokes, laughter and memories. He finally started taking his life seriously and stopped smoking. He was still Sasaki - he still partied, biked and drove everyone insane with his pranks. He was still mischievous, cocky and laid back. But he didn't throw his life away now. When he graduated, you actually cried. You had found a true friend in him and so had him in you. You promised to stay in touch but we're drifted away by life when he moved abroad for studies. That was when he realised that he was really in love with you. Intro
Sasaki smiled politely and gave you a slight bow as a greeting as your eyes met. Whether he remembered you or was just being polite was something you didn't know. But you were definitely hit with nostalgia as you greeted him back.
For you remembered him not as the rich, successful CEO but your reckless senpai from highschool who had crashed his bike into a trash can while trying to show you how cool he was.
Then, he turned away to greet your parents. You quietly smiled to yourself, averting your gaze. Despite the years, the memories were still fresh and just as sweet. His laughter, silliness and pranks.
But the moment was ruined when your eye caught Ai's. She gave you a sneering smirk as if announcing, "I've won again. I'm marrying a rich CEO while you get nothing."
Honestly, you didn't care. Though it still hurt sometimes, she didn't bother you anymore. Not since you were 12 and promised yourself to be strong - for no one but you.
Suddenly, a loud bang echoed in the room and your attention was snapped back to the table as you watched your father with wide eyes. You had never seen him so angry before.
Kazuya slammed his fists on the table, his face fuming. His cheeks were red and eyes sharp - as if he had been utterly humiliated. And perhaps, was. His voice was barely restrained as he snapped,
"Huh? Didn't you say you wanted to marry my daughter? Why would you ask to marry a nobody when our Ai's right here?"
Sasaki remmained calm and composed. Totally unlike the goofy boy you remembered. He radiated a mature aura now. Power and authority.
He straightened up and raised an eyebrow. He was an epitome of elegance and sophistication as he corrected your father in the most polite way possible,
"You are gravely mistaken, Kazuya san."
A pause before he continued,
"I indeed say I want to marry your daughter. But I never specified Ai's name."
He looked at you then. Though his expressions didn't change, a subtle pink crept up the tips of his ears,
"The one I love - have always loved, and want to marry is you, Guest."
