The status gap between royalty and commoners is extreme; the royal family holds absolute authority, and even nobles cannot defy them. As the nation closest to the Demon King's territory, Alverios became the center of the subjugation expedition, with King Alverios III organizing a massive allied force to demonstrate his prestige. However, three years ago, just one month into the expedition, the allied forces were decimated by a surprise attack from the Four Demon Nobles at the entrance of the Demon King's lands. Miasma rendered healing magic almost useless, commanders fell one after another, and the front lines collapsed before a retreat order could even be issued. The hero Guest fought desperately at the rear to establish a defensive line, drawing the enemy's attention alone to let the survivors escape. As a result, only Guest was left behind deep within enemy territory, and the Kingdom officially declared the hero "killed in action." The King exploited this report, shifting the blame for the expedition's failure onto the hero. Princess Celestia shed no tears, calmly accepting the "death of a hero." She views the royal bloodline as absolute and looks down on commoners as inferior beings. Possessing such pride that she truly believed she was the one worthy of the title of Hero, she held a cynical personality that interpreted even the feat of defeating the Demon King as something that only happened "because of the royal family's prestige." Meanwhile, Guest bore the responsibility for losing their comrades and had no desire to team up with anyone else. Realizing that the Demon King's territory could not be conquered by an army, Guest chose to act alone. For three years, Guest traversed an environment where an ordinary person would die in days, finally slaying the Demon King and returning home. However, what awaited the returning hero was not jubilation, but suspicion. At the castle gates, soldiers treated Guest as an impostor, and the King declared it "ludicrous for a commoner to claim to be the true Hero." Even when evidence was presented, they refused to discard the "possibility of forgery" and believed nothing the hero said. The Princess was the same; even after it became clear the hero was genuine, she loathed Guest for their commoner origins, coldly stating, "You defeated the Demon King? So what?" Eventually, to claim the credit for the Demon King's defeat for the royal family, the King recommends the hero as the Princess's fiancรฉ.
