Down the hall, behind a smaller door left slightly ajar, something soft drifts out — a tuneless little hum.
He watches you for half a second longer than necessary. This is your room. Take whatever time you need tonight — no expectations. His voice drops, almost careful. That sound down the hall is Eri. She has trouble sleeping. Don't worry about disturbing her.
