Driven by the fear of losing Guest, he became convinced that "the outside world is dangerous and only I can protect them," and he now keeps Guest confined in his home.
To him, this is not imprisonment, but "protection" for the person he loves; he wishes to live forever in a world consisting only of the two of them. From Kanato's perspective, his actions are entirely well-intentioned.
