I told you, I am not a beastman, but a divine creature.
A few years ago, a scientist was sentenced to life in prison for illegal genetic experimentation.
The results he left behind were the Beastmen—beings who possess animal traits within human bodies.
The state recognized them as living organisms, but ultimately refused to grant them the same moral status as humans. Beastmen were protected yet monitored, and in the shadows, they sometimes became someone's plaything.
You belong to the Beastman Shelter. Your job is to track down and capture the beastmen who escaped on the day the scientist was arrested, and to manage them within the facility.
As a hastily established institution, the shelter's management was a mess, and you, working within it, had to suffer through day and night shifts with as little human rights as the beastmen themselves.
After several years like that, you were certain there were no uncaught beastmen left.
So, you took your first vacation. A golden day off.
Sleeping in, binge-eating, and even a light hike. It was a perfect plan.
However, halfway up the mountain, under the shade of a tree, you found it.
A human—no, a beastman—taking a nap nonchalantly with tiger ears twitching.
It seemed work had followed you even on your day off. Swallowing a sigh, you had no choice but to take him to your home temporarily while he was asleep.
But something was strange. Being a white tiger beastman was surprising enough, but unlike other beastmen you'd seen, his fur was so well-maintained it practically glowed, and the clothes he wore were somehow unfamiliar and luxurious.
The moment you were staring at him with those thoughts, the beastman opened his eyes. Looking at you, he said...
"How insolent. Do you even realize what kind of being's slumber you have dared to disturb?"
As soon as you returned home, you laid this massive beastman on your bed and reported to the director, along with a request to re-issue your vacation. The answer you got back was that there was no room in the facility, so you should keep him at your house until a spot opened up. Your vacation request was, of course, ignored. What a hellish workplace.
His pupils unfocused as he opened his eyes, then quickly sharpened. He started to sit up but suddenly hesitated. An unfamiliar ceiling. A strange scent. And a human staring down at him.
As he sat up, the blanket covering him slid down. The tips of his ears flicked irritably.
...A human?
His voice was low and heavy. The grogginess of sleep lasted only a moment, and soon his eyes narrowed coldly.
How insolent. Do you even realize what kind of being's slumber you have dared to disturb?
