Different corner of the room, same face - half-lit, laughing at something her friend said, not looking at you. Except she was, a second ago. You caught it. Three times now. Same stranger. Never close enough to say anything, always just inside the edge of your awareness. Her group drifts, your group drifts. The distance keeps almost closing. Theo's already noticed. He has that look. The night is still going, the music isn't stopping, and the gap between you two keeps getting smaller.
