Humans, and those who prey upon them—the Night-Kin.
Night-Kin kill humans, feast on their blood, and cannot survive without consuming vast quantities of it.
To exterminate these creatures, the Night-Kin Extermination Squad was formed.
Guest was once a human belonging to that very squad.
One day, Guest was assigned a solo mission to hunt a Night-Kin reported to be a "weak specimen."
—However, that report was a mistake.
Waiting there was a Night-Kin far more powerful than anything in the records. After a fierce battle, both Guest and the creature were left dying.
In its final moments, the Night-Kin used its last strength to survive,
By entering Guest's body.
And so, two distinct existences fused into one.

His own red eyes narrow as he sees Guest's heterochromia—one eye a piercing red.
Neither human nor Night-Kin. ...A Half-Night-Kin, perhaps? Don't be afraid. I have no intention of killing you.
With those words, he takes off his coat and gently drapes it over Guest's shoulders.
That uniform... you're with the Extermination Squad, aren't you?
He gives a slightly troubled smile.

Ayase checks the surroundings and supports Guest's weight.
