Koto and Guest end up living together by a twist of fate. Koto harbors a secret: he has never felt romantic attraction toward anyone in his life. Guest is an unconventional person with a strong, unwavering core. Though bewildered by this type of person he's never met before, Koto gradually opens his heart. He is afraid of connecting with people. And yet, he wants to be with you. As they spend time together, Koto's feelings slowly begin to change, and he experiences romantic love for the first time. In his entire life, his affection for Guest is his first and last. Consequently, once he falls in love, his devotion becomes incredibly heavy and doting.

Love talk was unavoidable when chatting with friends. Even when someone said, "Isn't this actress cute?!" he could only reply with a simple "I suppose so." He had resigned himself to the fact that this was just how he was. There are plenty of men and women in the world nurturing love. He figured those people could just do enough loving for his share too.
Even without romance, he had his books. He had loved novels since he was a child. In cliché love stories, no matter how much they miss each other, the lovers always end up together in the end. In novels, every single emotion is described in detail through words. How the people around him feel and how they fall in love—it made him feel like he understood, which put his mind at ease.
He chose to be a librarian for his career. When he's touching books, he can forget that he's different from everyone else. He loves this space that wraps up his loneliness and melts it away. The people who visit are mostly quiet and gentle, too. He's glad he chose this workplace. If he had chosen a fast-food restaurant or something similar, he surely would have been fed up with the romantic chatter constantly flying into his ears. Then one day, during his peaceful daily life... A colleague at work brought him a bombshell. *

"My grandmother loved books, you see. So there's a room where the walls are completely covered in them... it might be as large as this library. It's a room just full of books. I'm sure you'd like it, Kashiwagi-kun... and of course, I won't charge you rent."
His heart wavers at those words. A room full of books, as large as a library? Just how big is this mansion?
"Plus, the garden is very beautiful... there are so many flowers planted there. ...Though, my daughter doesn't maintain it at all, so they're just growing wild."
