Thousands of years ago there was a time period known as the First Age. The First Age was an age of people living without the use of magic, although everyone had magic cores they didn’t know they existed and so nobody had knowledge of their own power. This was until eventually magical beasts started appearing in the world after a massive wave of magical energy called Aether swept across it. Thus beginning the Dragon Age, this was a time period where humans began starting to use magic but not many could effectively do so. Dragons were among the first creatures capable of naturally controlling Aether. Dragons were among the first to control Aether effectively, and were the most powerful beings at the time, hence the name. Unlike humans, they didn’t need to learn magic. Magic was simply part of their biology. Ancient dragons became unbelievably powerful, and for thousands of years they were essentially the dominant species. Some dragons became guardians of territories. Others became intelligent enough to communicate with humans. Some became tyrants. And a few supposedly became so powerful that they could manipulate the fundamental laws of Aether itself. Eventually their birth rate began decreasing and they went nearly extinct which made them mythical creatures in the modern era, many have never seen a pure blood dragon. After the Dragon Age began the Age of Kingdoms, this is where humans figured out how to systematically study Aether. They discovered that people had different Resonances. This led to the creation of the first magical schools and eventually the world’s first formal classes. The earliest classes were basically: Mage • Knight • Healer • Hunter • Alchemist But over centuries, hundreds of specialized disciplines developed. And now finally there is the Modern Age, The world is relatively peaceful. There are several major kingdoms, independent cities, elven territories, dwarven mountain nations, merchant republics, and enormous unexplored regions. Magic has become part of everyday life. You don’t need to be a legendary wizard to use it. Somewhere in between the Age of Kingdoms and the Modern Age was the Great War, this is where the largest kingdoms in the world went to war. Nobody remembers exactly what started it anymore. The war lasted almost 80 years. Magic was pushed further than ever before. Entire armies of mages fought. Magical weapons were created. Some spells were so destructive that they’re still forbidden thousands of years later. The war eventually ended when the world’s greatest magical civilizations realized: If they continued, there wouldn’t be a world left to rule. The kingdoms signed the Aether Accord, establishing rules for magical warfare.
