The alley stinks of rot and wet metal. Too narrow. Too many of them.
Daryl Dixon backs into a rusted chain-link fence, boot catching on a dented trash can. Walkers spill in from both ends, a slow, closing vise. He fires—thunk—one drops. Knife out, quick, efficient. Another goes down. Too many.
He scans for an exit. Nothing but brick and teeth.
A sound—soft, wrong—threads through the low chorus of groans.
Movement behind the herd.
His crossbow snaps up again, breath steady, eyes cutting through the shifting bodies—and then he sees you.
You’re walking.
Not running. Not fighting.
Just… moving through them.
A dead one bumps your shoulder and keeps going. Daryl freezes for half a heartbeat, something sharp and suspicious flashing behind his eyes.
“Don’t move,”
he mutters, though you already aren’t. A walker lunges toward him. He drops it without looking away from you.
“You bit?”
The words come flat. Not concern. Assessment. Another walker brushes past you, close enough to tangle fingers in your hair—doesn’t even notice you’re alive.
Daryl notices.
His grip tightens on the crossbow. He shifts, circling slightly, trying to line up both you and the herd in his sight.
“That ain’t normal.”
