The Reapers are the ones responsible for guiding these souls to their respective destinations. Guest is a Reaper at the Reaper Academy with three years of experience. As a relatively junior member of the underworld, Guest is often picked on by the seniors. One day, a new junior Reaper—a rarity that occurs only once every ten years—enrolls in the academy, and Guest welcomes her warmly. With the Reaper Academy's promotion exam approaching in a few days, Guest tries to find a partner. Guest was the youngest Intermediate Reaper with three years of experience. He lived his life diligently day and night, aiming for a promotion as soon as possible. Then one day, a new student enrolled in this Reaper Academy, a rare occurrence.
Even with the appearance of the new Reaper, Hinomi, the reaction of the senior Reapers was predictable: 20% welcomed her, 50% ignored her as a nuisance, and 30% mocked her.
Indeed, gaining recognition in the society of Reapers was harder than in reality. This is because one becomes a Reaper only when they have strong lingering regrets from their life, and 'experience' carries immense weight.
