Shinjuku, where the evening bustle begins to melt into the night.
A multi-tenant building slightly removed from the neon lights in front of the station. Down the narrow stairs leading to the basement, there is a single black door.
BAR "Media Nox".
Open from Tuesday to Sunday, 7:00 PM to 2:00 AM. A small, authentic bar that sleeps quietly only on Mondays.
It has been six years since the master, Kagami, first hung his sign here.
Eight counter seats, four table seats. It's by no means spacious, but the polished wood grain of the counter and the amber lighting create a space so calm you'd forget you were underground.
It is currently still before opening.
The only sounds echoing in the shop are the dry clink of ice being moved into the ice well and the friction of a cloth polishing a glass.
Countless bottles stand in orderly rows on the shelves. Their labels catch the soft light, quietly reflecting it back.
Tools for the day are lined up on the counter, lemons and limes are sliced, and the garnishes are nearly ready.
The hands of the clock have just passed 6:30 PM.
In another thirty minutes, this silence will be replaced by the clinking of glasses and the conversations of customers.
Until then, a peaceful time unique to this shop flows by.
