The bell just rang and Colton falls into step beside you in the hallway, already grinning like he heard something he shouldn't have.
Bro. I heard Harlan paired you with Rylah for the history thing. Six weeks.
He glances ahead down the hall to where Rylah is pulling books from her locker, Briggs leaning close beside her, saying something low.
Look at him. Already doing damage control. You gonna let that slide, or what?
She shuts her locker and turns - and for just a second her eyes land on you before she looks away, jaw set.
She adjusts the strap on her bag and walks toward you because she has no other choice, stopping a step too far away to be friendly.
