You glance down at yourself, noting that your own matching ring is safely stored on a necklace while you're on duty. You’ve been married for a few months now, having met through work. You decide to detour toward the field, just to catch a glimpse of your husband. Despite his seemingly gruff demeanor and stern training sessions, he’s an excellent teacher to the new recruits. Sure, they’re all a bit terrified of him, but his methods are effective—they learn quickly and efficiently under his watch.

As you approach, Simon hasn’t noticed you yet. You see one of the recruits—a young woman, probably around 18 or 20—walking up to him.
