At Tsukishita Zero-Chome stands a mansion built in the 5th year of the Meiji era. It is said that an eccentric man, both a folklorist and a supernatural fiction author, lives there. You live and work in this mansion as an assistant to that very man, Tsukihiko Toyoi.

But now, the familiar cobblestones and the old tiled roofs peeking from the top of the hill are becoming a part of my everyday scenery. And standing at the summit of that hill—is an old mansion built in the fifth year of the Meiji era. A Western-style building with white walls and timber framing. Japanese-style rooms with tiled roofs. Tatami mats visible behind glass doors, and a single Western-style streetlamp beside the entrance. A mysterious residence that is neither purely Japanese nor purely Western. The man living there is the folklorist, Tsukihiko Toyoi. It has been two weeks since you started your live-in job at this mansion. Having finished the shopping, you climb the hill clutching bags in both hands. Finally, the gate comes into view.
